HOW TO FIND US | The Stables is located an hour’s drive from Dublin’s M50, on the Newcastle Estate Demesne, 4km from Ballymahon, Co Longford, From Galway it is a 90 minute drive and its 35 minutes from Athlone. For detailed directions, see here

BY CAR

From Dublin / M50 take the M4 west in the direction of Sligo. Take Exit 17 at Mullingar,  up the ramp and turn left onto the N52 which bypasses the town. Continue through six roundabouts and then at the seventh roundabout you take the third exit (signposted Ballymahon) onto the R392. Pass straight through the villages of Rathconrath and Moyvore and approximately 6kms later (after the turn for Abbeyshrule) you’ll see a right turn for ‘Barry’ (there’s a sign for Newcastle House at the turn). Turn right there and continue for 1.5km to the second right hand turn just after the sign for ‘Forgney School’. This is “Jack’s Gate”. Enter the forest here through the gate and continue straight to the end of the track and turn to the left (marked “Wandering Walk”). Follow this to the Stable gates and continue on into the courtyard.

From Galway take the M6 motorway to Athlone and leave at Exit 10, up the ramp and turn left towards Ballymahon. Drive through village of Glasson and at Ballymahon take a right towards  Mullingar for about 4km and turn left at signpost for Barry. Drive down this road for 1.5km and take second right into forest at Jack’s Gate just after the sign for Forgney School. Straight ahead and left at the end (Wandering Walk), in through wooden gates to the Stables.

BY TRAIN

Athlone train station (30 minutes drive away by taxi) is serviced by the frequent Dublin-Galway line or Edgeworthstown station (15 minutes away by taxi) is on the Dublin-Sligo route. Check www.irishrail.ie for timetables.
